As foster carers, we understand just how important it is to feel supported by those who truly understand the journey. Fostering can be challenging at times, and there’s no weakness in leaning on others who’ve walked in your shoes and know what it’s like.
That’s why we’ve created welcoming drop-in sessions—a safe space where you can connect, share, and receive support from fellow carers who’ve lived and loved this experience. Whether you’re exploring fostering, awaiting approval, an experienced foster carer, or a kinship carer, we’re here to listen, support, and advise.
Come along—we’d love to meet you. Together, we can make a difference.
*Launching in January 2025.
When it comes to fostering, protecting yourself and having access to the right independent professional support is essential. Foster carers often face unique challenges, and as an unrecognised workforce, it’s vital to have strong support systems in place—especially in the event of an allegation.
Allegations are, unfortunately, a reality for foster carers. Statistics indicate that many foster carers will face an allegation at some point during their career. These situations can be stressful, isolating, and deeply impactful, making it crucial to have independent advocacy and guidance to navigate the process.
From our personal experience, we recommend these two organisations that are run by foster carers, for foster carers:
National Union of Professional Foster Carers
Foster Wiki
Both provide experienced, independent support, offering advice, advocacy, and representation tailored to foster carers. While there are other organisations available, these two stand out for their focus on understanding the realities of fostering and their commitment to supporting carers through challenging times.
Remember, being prepared isn’t about expecting the worst—it’s about ensuring you have the right tools and support if you ever need them.
